Party on Top of the Parking Garage

The best party is the one you never anticipated. That goes for a lot of things. Think of some of the best things you have had or have in your life. Many of these things you could not have even thought of or made up. Often times, things don’t turn out or look like you thought they would, but that does not mean that they are not still good.

Sometimes, the best party is in yoga pants on the top of a parking garage, dancing to music being played on an iPhone, and drinking bourbon outside of a recycled bottle — makeup-less — while looking up at the fancy high-end clubs that can see you (believing they are envious).

Don’t get me wrong, I love getting dressed up and going out. However, I have next-level respect for people that can also “entertain themselves.” You can have all the things you think you need, but, more than likely, you having fun is dependent on you and your company. I love having the right glassware, the perfect snack, best pizza cutter, and a good cutting board. But, really, I could live without all of that and still have a good time.

True entertainers do have more fun.

Make your own pizza and moscow mules with crushed ice.

Pro Tips:

      • April is Spring Fever Mint Season. Good luck trying to find mint in Nashville, but once you are on a mission…

      • Publix employees are really the best, even if they don’t have mint.

      • If you found mint, you will have earned your mint julep. Want to make the best (and most expensive) mint julep you have ever had in your life? Use Southern Collective bourbon. It will be both good and efficient. But, do it right.

      • Crushed ice is critical to your homemade mint julep. Critical enough that someone invented a bag to crush it in. This will be a good — and elevated — addition to your barware.

      • Even if you have all of the right ingredients, the process for making the best mint julep you have ever had in your life is dependent on the process.

      • A rooftop is a rooftop, even if that is a parking garage. Surprisingly, it may even have the best view of the city — even better than the rooftop clubs. Again, sometimes we spend all of this money for “all the things,” but with a little imagination and flexibility, we can have an even better experience for even more for little or no money.

      • Make homemade pizza with all of your leftovers, even if that is leftover taco meat. This is a great way to clean out your fridge, and also another good reason to always buy fresh mozzarella when it is 50% off at the grocery store and just have it in your refrigerator.

      • Did you know? The speed of the wind actually increases at sunset because of the change in temperature caused by the sun setting. The “Eastern” side of the air actually becomes more dense and therefore gravitates in the direction of the warmer air — the sun. As soon as the sun sets, the wind will die down. It is a meteorological phenomenon.

      • Listen to public playlists on Spotify — just pick an era. These people that curate these are good, and you will listen to all kinds of nostalgic songs you have not heard in forever. And, as always, dance.

      • Remember this one? Nelly — Hot in Herre

      • Dance enough that you sweat through your t-shirt and sweat out some of that Southern Collective.

      • Whatever it is, let it simmer. Give yourself, everyone else, and everything a chance. Even your dancing will get better.
