I work with a lot of different people in a lot of different industries. However, some are more impactful and compelling than others. I was recently on a phone call where we were talking about how we could leverage our collective networks to send referral business to each other. When I was talking to this person, they said, “let’s think more about how we can bless each other.”
“Bless each other.” I certainly appreciate and have been so blessed by so many people I have met and become friends with. I think this was the first time I had seen it, and derived it, from this perspective, though: “bless each other.” Meaning, how can we all leverage our resources, know-how, trust, friendship, and network to benefit someone else we care about, and thereby benefit all of us at the same time?
It is an interesting thought. I have ended up in the coolest positions working with the coolest people just because of one phone call. What if we just start making more phone calls?
I am also the first one to recommend people I know that have a lot of value to give in my network. So many people have done it for me on my behalf. Yeah, we have Google and Chat GPT (pretty cool as you get to learn it!), but there is nothing that replaces a personal referral or introduction.
Think about who you can bless — and it will require no money — just an intro or an idea. More than likely, you will also receive a reciprocal blessing.
Pro Tips:
-
- Return that phone call THAT day. It is a real sign of respect when you recognize someone contacted you, and then you say you will get back to them — and do, that day.
-
- Review the Buy One Get One Ads on Publix’s website. It may help you achieve your next record for grocery shopping savings. These BOGO’s are also a good opportunity to try new things at half of the price.
-
- Pick up the phone and call people. You would be surprised what happens.
-
- Don’t undermine the power of meditation and other energy practices. I had my doubts too, and then I did this one and it completely changed my “energy” and outlook for the better. Take a minute and meditate. It costs you nothing, and you have everything to gain.
-
- If you have not been grocery shopping in a while, make sure you get restocked on cheese in case you have to host charcuterie, even for two on the spot. Again, BOGO ads are a good resource for this.
-
- Hold the elevator for someone else. Don’t do the “thing” where you ignore the door is closing. When you hold it, they will say, “wow, most everyone would have just pretended they didn’t see me while it was closing.” First of all, how has that become the norm? Second of all, be that person that holds the elevator. Why make two trips? And, where do you really have to be in 30 less seconds? This will also give you the opportunity to provide recommendations for buying wine glasses in the area.
