Like Is Like

Like does not attract like. Like is just like. I have used the phrase “like attracts like” at least a couple of hundred times. But, something changed my mind. Do we attract it, or do we just end up around people that all like the same things, including the same qualities and values in those people? And, that is why we keep coming back to spend more time?

If someone or a lot of people really like you, they will most likely like the people you like — some more than others, but the odds are pretty good. The odds are, you have similar values, sense of humor, and party etiquette. Like is just that, like.

We all only get so many hours in a day until an unknown amount of time. Make the time to spend the time with people that “like” you. They like you for a reason. That is why they invite you. If you decline enough invites, you just won’t get anymore, not because they don’t like you, but they just know you won’t show up. Then, when you show up, overdo it.

Community has never been harder to establish than today, yet we have all of this technology. At the end of the day, we all must always invest in showing up and investing in our most important relationships — that like us and we like them.

Show someone that you like them today, and the world will be a better place.

Pro Tips:

  • Bring more than is expected. It requires so much to host. Your contribution will be a sign of recognition of their effort, actually.
  • Some people think cornhole is a skill. As long as I am talking to someone and distracted enough, apparently, I can actually perform better…and win. Life lesson – you can be totally down and then win the game.
  • Know when to leave. It has taken me a while to know that. Stay long enough that you can help clean up everything, and then leave after that.
  • Definitely get a Busch Light on the front-end, if you want one, if there are people from Nebraska and Iowa there. You might just end up enjoying a Bud Light, because all of the Busch Lights are tapped out. Market research (although a small sample) has shown that Busch Light is the popular selection — even way above Michelob Ultra.
  • Plan a wine tasting with your friends while you are there…while you are drinking your Busch Light. Actually, a lot of people want to know more about wine.
  • Go home and make homemade pizza. Scour the freezer and then don’t forget the salt in the dough.
  • Get up the next day, have coffee, take a nap, and then clean up what looks like WWIII in your kitchen.
  • Let’s like a lot of things: Fresh-Squeezed Lime Margaritas, Costco Kirkland Pinot Noir, Another Homemade Pizza, Yellowstone — Any Season, Leftover Bruschetta, and Really Good People.
